AI commerce

The store that thinks
for your shopper.

I build and integrate the AI features top brands use to sell more per visit — not chatbots bolted on, but real buying help at the moment of decision.

01

AI Stylist

A personal stylist on every product page — complete-the-look outfits picked for each shopper. Lifts average order value.

↑ AOV · cross-sell
02

AI Size Suggestion

Ends the guesswork at checkout. Recommends the right fit from a few answers, so shoppers buy with confidence — and send less back.

↓ returns · ↑ confidence
03

AI Virtual Try-On

See it on, before they buy. Turns "not sure" into add-to-cart and gives your PDP the kind of moment shoppers screenshot and share.

↑ add-to-cart · engagement

Selected work

Three stores.
Three things I actually shipped.

A Ma Maniere storefront ↗ a-ma-maniere.com

Speed · Shopify Plus

A Ma Maniere

A premium sneaker boutique heavy with imagery and third-party scripts — launch-day spikes dragged mobile load times and bled conversions.

  • Rebuilt the critical rendering path; deferred and trimmed third-party scripts
  • Optimized imagery, fonts, and theme Liquid for launch-scale traffic
  • Wrote and deployed a custom quantity-limiter Shopify Function for drops
  • Localized checkout with Translate & Adapt across markets
Officially Miami Lighthouse accessibility compliant — third-party sign-off, not a self-assessment.

Byrna storefront ↗ byrna.com

Conversion · CRO

Byrna

High-intent traffic, but the path from product page to checkout leaked buyers — weak cart UX and no urgency at the moments that decide the sale.

  • Custom slide-cart with free-shipping bar and scarcity timers
  • Tightened the PDP → cart → checkout flow and mobile UX
  • A/B-informed layout and discount-in-cart logic
Custom git-backed theme (Ultimate 3.67.4) — product page, cart, and the path between them.

Social Status storefront ↗ socialstatuspgh.com

AI shopping · Discovery

Social Status

A deep catalog where shoppers struggled to find the right pair fast — browsing fatigue before they ever reached add-to-cart.

  • AI-powered product discovery and personalized recommendations
  • Smart sub-category navigation and collection logic
  • Merchandising surfaced to intent, not just recency

Platform depth

Checkout, Functions,
and the parts a theme can't reach.

Checkout used to be the thing you couldn't safely customize. That changed, and most Shopify developers still haven't shipped on it. All three extension surfaces below went live in one custom app — plus a Function running on a separate store.

Checkout UI extensions

A hold-order journey at checkout: the customer picks a future dispatch date and prepays storage as its own cart line. Shipped on Preact.

Customer-account extensions

The same customer changes that dispatch date later from their own account page — no email, no support ticket.

Admin UI extensions

Merchant-side dashboard for the same app, with order webhooks and reminder automation behind it.

Shopify Functions

A custom quantity-limiter function, written and deployed on A Ma Maniere to hold the line on drop-day limits.

Accessibility, signed off

A Ma Maniere and Social Status are both officially Miami Lighthouse compliant — an external body's audit, not my own checklist.

The backend under it

React Router, Prisma, PostgreSQL, App Bridge, Admin GraphQL, webhooks and Klaviyo triggers, deployed on Render.

The story

I loved commerce
before it was my job.

I don't treat your store like a ticket. I treat it like mine — because I've been on your side of it.

Shafi Imam
  1. 2016–21

It started with a degree — and an obsession.

I finished my CS degree with one thing pulling at me harder than the rest: e-commerce. The mix of technology and the way people buy. For my capstone, I built a complete, custom e-commerce system on a mid-to-large-scale architecture — not a toy, a real one.

  2. 2021

Then I ran my own store.

I started my own e-commerce business. I felt every part of it — the late-night fixes, the sale that doesn't come, the small change that suddenly works. That's when it stopped being theory. I understood what merchants actually feel, because I was one.

  3. 2021–23

    I went all-in on Shopify.

I joined a Shopify company and went deep as a full-stack developer — themes, apps, the whole ecosystem, living in the docs. Then subscription systems and internal tooling at Spring Rain. Shopify became the craft I chose to master, because it's where the brands I care about actually live.

  4. Now

100+ stores, 5+ years, still obsessed.

Theme development, app integrations, custom apps, checkout and customer-account extensions, AI integration — across 100+ Shopify stores and 20+ custom apps. Every store I touch, I want it faster, smarter, and selling more than the day I found it. That part never got old.
